GATE 2015 - Exam Dates, Syllabus, Exam Details, Eligibilty, Application Form
GATE 2015 - Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a
national level Post Graduate/Undergraduate examination conducted jointly
by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT
Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT
Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Department
of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),
Government of India.
The GATE 2015 score of a candidate reflects a relative performance level in a particular subject in the exam across several years. The score is used for admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g., M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score may also be used by Public and Private Sector Undertakings for employment screening purposes.
Marking: There will be Negative marking for GATE 2015 with a deduction of 1/3 marks for a wrong answer to a 1-mark multiple-choice question and 2/3 marks for every wrong answer to the 2 mark questions.

- For the GATE 2015 examination, a candidate can apply for only one of the 22 papers. The syllabus for each of the papers is given separately. Making a choice of the appropriate paper during GATE application is the responsibility of the candidate.

Syllabi
General Aptitude (GA) - Common For All Papers:
1. Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning and verbal deduction.\
2. Numerical Ability: Numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation.

Exam Pattern
- In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks are in General Aptitude (GA).
- In the papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE, the Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 70% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.
- In the papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL, the General Aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks and the remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.
- GATE 2015 would contain questions of two different types in various papers:
(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
(ii) Numerical Answer Questions
- General Aptitude Questions are compulsory for all papers and will carry 15 marks questions

Reservations
Typically the classes which are eligible
for reservation are: SC, ST, PwD, OBC expanded as Scheduled Caste,
Scheduled Tribe, Persons with Physical Disability, Other Backward
Classes respectively.
As per the GATE 2015 Reservation
of Seats, candidates would be allotted these reserved seats in the
counselling cum seat allotment rounds. For claiming the reservation, it
must be made sure that you mention your category carefully in the
application form.
