JEE Main 2016 Exam Pattern

This post is about Exam Pattern of JEE Main 2016 Exam.
JEE Main 2016 Exam Pattern will explain the topics such as marking system, type of questions, time duration, mode of examination and other important topics related to the Joint Entrance Exam 2016. The below exam pattern is highly recommended for candidates to read, they will clear all sorts of doubts in JEE Exam Pattern.

Type of Exam

  • Exam 1 -- for Engineering  Courses.
      • Both Online as well as Offline (paper-pen based)
  • Exam 2 -- for Architecture/ Planning Courses.
      • Only Offline, i.e. Paper pen based exam.

Time Duration

  • The Joint Entrance Exam will last for 3 hours.

Exam Medium

  • Candidates can write / appear JEE Main 2016 in English OR Hindi.
  • Candidates from Gujarat state are allowed to appear the exam in Gujarati Medium.

JEE Main 2016 Engineering Exam Pattern

Online Test - Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • The CBT will be covering questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with equal weightage to all subjects.
  • The JEE Main 2016 Question Paper will consist of three parts with equal weightage to all the three subjects.
  • The candidates will have to opt for the correct response for each question out of four responses given.
  • The exam will be for 3 hours in duration.
  • Each question will be allotted 4 marks.
  • Every wrong answer will result in deduction of one mark due to negative marking of ¼ (one fourth) of the total marks
  • No marks will be deducted for no answer / blank response.
  • Facilitation Centres (in cities where the online exam will be conducted) will be operational in March 2016 to aid hands on practice for students who wish to familiarize themselves with the online Exam pattern.
  • The list of the facilitation Centres will be announced in March 2016 by CBSE.

Offline Test - Pen and Paper based test

  • The exam will be of 3 hours duration
  • 30 questions from each subject namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will be asked making the total number of questions to be 90.
  • The JEE Main 2016 Question Paper will be of multiple choices with one correct answer from a choice of four answers for each question.
  • All subjects carry equal weightage with each question carrying 4 marks for a correct answer.
  • Every wrong answer will result in deduction of one mark due to negative marking of ¼ (one fourth) of the total marks
  • No marks will be deducted for no answer

JEE Main 2016 - Architecture Exam Pattern


The JEE Main 2016 Exam 2 will be for the admissions to the Architecture/Planning courses.
The Exam will consist of Objective type of questions.

The JEE Main 2016 Architecture / Planning Exam will consist of three parts:
  • Part I - Mathematics
  • Part II - Aptitude Test 
  • Part III - Drawing Test

Note: Candidates have to bring their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers and colour pencils or crayons. A card board or a clip board is also advisable.

    1.both second year and 1st year 's marks combinde for 1000

    2.only second year's marks
