How to prepare for AIPMT 2016

154 comments :
Cracking a medical entrance exam in first attempt is like a mandatory goal for students. Sometimes they go under a lot of pressure and really mess things up. To prevent this from happening, a student needs to have a plan on how he proposes to study for the upcoming entrance test.

Like the Joker said in The Dark Knight, "Nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying!"

No, you're not going to have a horrific plan, but you will have a plan and you will follow it to crack AIPMT 2016 in first attempt with or without coaching.

Cracking AIPMT 2016

Now first things first, know your enemy well, treat AIPMT 2016 as something to overcome, you will have to have knowledge about the examination.

These links might just come handy:

AIPMT 2016 (main article)
AIPMT 2016 Syllabus

Now that you have enough information to start on, there are some basic principles of preparing for an entrance exam (believe it or not)

1. Maintain Health

Now this will seem a little off the topic but it isn't, many students can't prepare or cannot prepare well enough for the entrance exam because of their poor health, and most of the time it is the result of their own ignorance about their body.

Now here's something you can do to maintain your health.
  1. Start with Meditation. It will keep peace in your mind, yes the exam is an enemy, but you know it so well that it is easy to tackle, and you are absolutely going to do it when it is the right time.
  2. Try breathing the right way. The right way is to take deep breaths, this will take it's time to get right, but you will do just fine. (Read a wikiHow on this)
  3. Get rid of stress. I found a wikiHow on How to live a stress free lifestyle.
  4. Get proper sleep.
  5. Eat healthy.
  6. Stop smoking or alcohol consuming for the preparation period if possible.

 2. Stay organized (Time management)

Organization will require a plan. To stay organized, you have to make a list of things. It will have 3 section, Topics you absolutely know/understand, Topics that you know a little about, and Topics that you know absolutely nothing about.
Now after you have your list, it is time to act on that. Every second counts, with every second slipping off your hand (even while reading this article) you are giving up an opportunity to do something regarding the entrance exam. The most difficult part of any exam preparation is Time Management.

Make a timetable/schedule, don't feel depressed if you cannot follow it right, most of the people can't. But that doesn't mean you stop trying.

3. Old is Gold (Learn from the past)

Not talking about any other Heath Ledger movie, but the good old question papers! Studying them will help you understand the pattern (if there is any) of questions asked and also your weaknesses and strength. This is something that can play the Joker in your preparation cards. It is noticed that no large change happens in every year pattern of the exam, you can always sort out things that are important by simply studying the previous year's papers.
Now once you have, compare it to your list that you made (if you followed no. 2), You will know which Topic to give High priority and which one to give Low.

4. Start studying already!

What else do you need? You have your plan, you have a schedule, you have your priorities, all you need to do now is to study according to your plan.

Here are some things I can think of:
  1. Sort your resources, as you will have many, give them priorities too, because let's face it, there will not be enough time to go through all these stuff. Set a timespan in which you should complete one.
  2. Participate in different tests, which will allow you to test yourself and keep a track of things if they are going the right way. Also it will give you an idea of how much time do you need to write a paper on average and work on it if needs be.
  3. Forget the myths like entrance exams are hard to crack and blah blah, after all these are called myths for a reason.
  4. Everybody fears something, if you fear this entrance test, there is nothing wrong in it, but know that you can overcome any fear and you will have to overcome this.
  5. One of the best thing that helps in this is to find motivation, it can be anything that motivates you to do anything about this examination.

And again, Stay Healthy!

That's it for the Preparation tips on AIPMT 2016. Stay connected for more.

    1. We know it is quite frustrating to appear for an exam multiple times and to read the same books over and over. Students start loosing self confidence on multiple failed attempts and are often left frustrated thinking about the fate of their educational path. This makes them lose interest.

Since you appear to be a fifth-time repeater, it is obvious that you are aware of all concepts and topics. You study at your full limits for the exams and still are unable to make to the selections. The problem is that you are so frustrated that you begin to ask yourself if you are doing the right thing or not, and that results into losing self confidence.

Don't lose self confidence, failures are faced by everyone. There are very few doctors who have cracked medical entrances in a single blow. Almost 80% of the people repeat (both toppers and avg. students). Personally, I've seen people repeating more than 5 times and still studying with full dedication and confidence for the next exams. Even super-bright students have to repeat to crack medical exams, it is not as easy as it seems to be.
You are not the only one facing the failure, there are countless people like you who are working hard to achieve their goals. Don't lose hope.

Since you know all topics very well, the best thing you can do to prepare for AIPMT is to solve as many tests as you can.
Pick an objective type question book for every subject and start solving them one by one.
Just reading and understanding topics again and again never helps, you need to apply those concepts in the exams too.
Buy a commercial test series (online/ offline), keep appearing for tests, track your performance, know your weak spots, work on the topics you appear to be weak on.

Also, at the the same time, try to crack other medical entrance exams as well.
There are many state level and university level medical entrance exams, AIPMT is not the only one. Try your luck and dedication with them too.

I hope this will be enough to understand how to boost performance.
      Feel free to share words.

    1. Since you have joined a coaching class, it is clear that you have to study for both, class XII as well as AIPMT.
Since AIPMT will have 12th class topics too, It will be best to not repeat yourself by reading same things again and again.

Learn and understand the topics taught in your junior college and coaching institute.
You'll have no time to read the topics again and dive deeper into the subject.

The best method will be to understand the concepts at your coaching institute and revise it during the lectures in your college (only if you attend) .
After that, revise the same topic at your home.
In this way you'll easily grasp topics without reading things again and again.

No matter what, revise all four subjects (PCBZ) everyday at any cost.
Revise and solve objective-type problems from your course package.
By solving problems you'll be automatically training yourself for both boards and AIPMT.

Stay awake late nights AND/OR wake up early in the morning, compromise with you sleep this year.
      All the best.

    2. But the problem is that diff chapters r going on in school and coaching, which makes it difficult to give focus on chaps!

      Delete
    3. Then focus more on the chapters from coaching institute as they will be teaching by taking AIPMT into consideration. Just be mentally present in school lectures, take notes of topics which are important for board exams.
When you are preparing for AIPMT, you are learning topics deeply, which makes your concepts clear. If your concepts are clear in a topic, you can appear in any exam for that topic, be it objective type or subjective type.

Final words: Don't sail on two boats at a time. AIPMT is based on CBSE and each and every state board is related to CBSE. Go for AIPMT, just emphasize important board exam topics.

    1. It will be quite tough for you to cope with the studies now. Start learning from the basics and then move to higher topics.

Start from class XIth topics, understand them thoroughly and then use that basic knowledge to learn class XIIth topics. While preparing for AIPMT, don't neglect the importance of board exams.
If you belong to a state where there is no class XIth topics in medical entrance exams, stop learning class XIth topics and concentrate on class XII topics because it will help you to prepare for both, boards and entrance effectively.

Concentrate on Physics and Chemistry. Solve as much numerical problems as you can.
People generally ignore these two important subjects and stick with biology and then realize their mistake at the end.

You have no time to waste, devote every minute if your to learning.
Even if you belong to SC, there will be tough competition.
Concentrate more on state-level exam because they tend to be easier and less competitive than AIPMT.

Since you're new to this, it might happen that you fail to crack the exams for some reason, still don't lose hope. Study hard, think positively.
      All the best.

I am sure I will not be able to solve physics problems in future also. What should i do? my chemistry and bio is good enough but in physics only theory portions are clear to me. Is there any meaning of giving aipmt for such a weak student like me? should I stop to attempt aipmt exam? Please sir help me.....

    1. It is shocking to know that you can't solve 7th class problems.
Really? Are you sure you're giving your 100%?
Have to tried solving them or just have developed phobia to mathematical problems without even touching them?

Almost every medical aspirant is bad in physics and numerical problem because, he/she plays with biology and chemistry and ignores physics.

No subject is tough or easy, It just depends upon your priorities.

And as far as the second question is concerned:
Yes, you can crack AIPMT with just biology and chemistry, provided you must score 90-100% marks in both of them.
Can you? If yes, good luck. If no, start solving physics, take help from your teachers and friends.

      All the best.

  8. hey! i have been studying all this while. but then, i haven't given my 100%. i'm preparing for aipmt 2016. i know the basics of each and every chapter. but its just that i know like upar upar se. i attend my coaching s regularly. but i don't study more than 2-3 hours at home. which is why i don't know the topics thoroughly. with aipmt round the corner, i want to give my 100% and i have started studying for 10 hours everyday at home besides my tutions. but then, i don't how to start with it. like the course syllabus is very vast. and i want to finish it all before my board exams. what should be the strategy? and i have a very sharp mind. if i read a topic once i can remember it throughout! plus, at my tution tests i have always scored 60% marks, which all owes greatly to my class retention. i need help? i need to know how should i accommodate all the topics in these 8 months time. and i need to master everything. i was a very bright student in class 10. but due to some distractions, i left studying from class 11. and now i'm all geared up again. but, i hope its not that late to start over again? please help?

    1. Hi there.
Since you know the basics, diving deep into the topics won't be a problem. The 'upar-upar se' thing won't work if you're aiming high. If you're attending your coaching regularly and paying attention there, you'll just need to revise the topics taught and practice problems (mcqs) based on that topics.

Seriously, 10hours is too much. Don't do that!
Give your time for all four subjects, learn the concepts, solve problems based on that concepts.
Give at least 1.5 hours for each subject everyday (for both, reading and solving). By following this, you won't get bored and will be able to cover all four subjects same day without breaking your schedule. During that hours, revise what you've learnt at your coaching institute and solve problems based on that.

While studying topics of class XII, don't forget about the importance of class XIth topics. Revise them during your regular schedule.

Regular revision and problem solving will make your memory strong about the subject and you won't be forgetting topics after time passes.

It is never late for preparation of exams, even if the exam is on the next day, even if you start a day before the exam, you'll at least know some topics which you can apply.

Again, the only key to crack an entrance exam is revision and problem solving. Practice as much as you can.

      All the very best.

  9. Hi I am taking a 2nd drop for aipmt preparation. I am not taking any coaching this time though i did take one before. It's just that do you think without coaching we can score high in aipmt? I am feeling pretty low and i keep doubting myself. What do you suggest?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello, Of course, you can score high without coaching classes. And there's no need for a 2nd time dropper to go for costly coaching institute where thousands of students learn and only few hundred crack the exam and get admitted to college.
A coaching institute for repeaters just does revision on important topics and guides the student.
The exam is attended by student and only the student is responsible for his good/bad marks, not the coaching institute.

Don't worry, study hard, coaching classes do not decide fate of students.
      All the best.

    1. It is never too late to start studying. If you can study all concepts and practice them regularly on your own, then there is no need of worrying about coaching classes.

Since you are not going to a coaching class, it is obvious that you'll be having quite a lot of time to study. Don't waste that time, use it. Use that time, study subject systematically, one by one. Practice problems associated with that topic after you complete it.

Also, don't worry about how bad/good your performance will be in the exam. Just concentrate on studies.
At the same time, take care of your health, there is always a next time in entrance exams.

      All the best.

  11. I'm in class 12. To be a doctor has always been my ambition since childhood. But when I was in class 11 I could not study well due to many family matters. Now my parents want me to focus on boards but I want to devote myself to aipmt...... medical is my passion. but even if I sleep for 4 hrs. a day I get only 4 hrs for self study...... there are hardly 6 months left in aipmt......what can I do???? please help

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So, It appears that due to some reasons, you don't know class XIth concepts clearly and now want to cover up those as well as class XIIth topics for AIPMT.

There are only few months left, the best thing you can do is to clear all previous class concept and then move to class 12th topics.

Since you are getting only four hours per day (even if you sleep 4 hours?, sleep at least 6 hours, don't push yourself that hard!), it is obvious that you're attending school/ junior college lectures and probably, you've joined a coaching class too. Cover class XII topics throughly during that period, in the remaining 4 hours, revise of both class xi and xii and try to solve problems based on that topic.

Four hours are enough to cover topics of all four subjects and practice problems based on that too. If you're confused about what to choose, class XII or AIPMT, go for AIPMT, board exams barely matter. If you're studying for AIPMT, eventually you prepare yourself for board exam too.

2- Concentrate properly during lectures plus while studying
3- In some or the other way getting demotivated to crack the exam

    1. Hi there,
Biology is always strong for a student who desires medical science as a career. When you find biology easy, you start hating topics where analytical and mathematical skills are required.

Always remember, no subject is easy or tough, it's all about priorities. Don't stick with biology, as a medical aspirant, you know that you can score good in biology, just stop giving too much importance to it. You can never crack a medical entrance with only Biology as weapon. Only Physics and chemistry will help you crack exams, not biology.

Just because a student want to get admitted to medicals, she/he develops a mentality that mathematics, physics and chemistry are of no use in future, it's only waste of time learning it.
Stop saying that you're bad with basics mathematics, no you're not. It's just you've ignored it so much that now you can't face it.

1- Give equal time to every subject
You say you're unable to give equal time to every subject? How to solve it? The solution lies in the question itself. One hour per subject is enough. Study at least four hours a day, divide hours by subject, read the concepts solve problems based on the same, as simple as that.

2- Concentrate properly during lectures plus while studying
Concentration is the key. The best way to stop getting distracted during lectures is to note everything the teacher is teaching, you get bored by just listening to the concepts, maintain a notebook for lectures, write every point on the book while the teacher teaches you.
Stop living among negative peoples. Maintain mental balance by living around friends superior to you with studies (no harsh feelings for your friends :) ).
Study in a silent place, this keeps you away from distractions. When bored, play with physics problems, they are always fun for your brain. Practicing problems is a great way to avoid boredom while studying.

3- In some or the other way getting demotivated to crack the exam
Ask yourself, why are you wanting to become a doctor?.
For whom you're studying hard? Yourself? Parents? Teachers? Friends? Competitors? Country?
From all of above, competition and parents are best motivation.
Remember them every time you're feeling low with your studies.

This one is bit unclear, so I assumed that you want to get motivated.
...and to avoid demotivation, Remember, thousands of guys and girls like you who never lose hope and work hard until they reached their goal and now they have 'Dr.' in front of their name. Get inspired by them.

PS: Even if you're unable to crack the exam, there's no harm in reappearing the same with more determination and practice.

      ---
      All the best.

    2. You need to devote your full time to be able to crack AIPMT. There is lot of competition, you need concentrate on one thing at once.
Either do your degree or start preparing for AIPMT full-time. Do NOT try to sail too boats at a single time.

Start by revising the basics of class XI topics and solve the practice questions. This must not be hard for you, you've already appeared AIPMT ample of times.

Just revise all the topics and solve questions related to that. Since you are trying to get involved after a quite a long gap, it will seem tough to learn the topics at first. But don't lose hope, work hard.

      All the best.

But I prepared really hard for two years only because of my parents but unfortunately I couldn't qualify as i got confused between my aim and that of my parent. So now the situation is really ugly , I am going through a bad phase as because now somewhere I m unable to leave this stream. I had other options but I didn't go for them as I couldn't gather the guts to leave this stream. It's just so tough for me now. M absolutely nowhere. I have lost my confidence as well but I really really want to do this for my parents. I need this badly. Please help me to be able to do this. Do reply sir. I need a motivator right now.

    1. Try to learn / solve only important topics, if you're referring an entrance exam book, it will have chapter-wise weight-age (for example USS), Physics and Chemistry are the key, try to cover them first.

    1. If by "joined engineering" you mean you've taken admission in engineering undergraduate course, the very first advice will be "He who chases two rabbits will catch neither.". Decide what you actually want to do.
Other than that, 310 is not bad score. You'll only have to revise the concepts.
Give every subject an hour, solve old question papers. That's it.

    1. Practice is what you need to do.
Start solving basic level physics numerical problems, move to advanced version of the problem based on same concept.
And for the calculations, when solving physics, round off numbers during calculations. Your speed will increase slightly.

    1. If you're familiar with class 12th concepts, it will be quite easy to cover the class 11th concepts is relatively less time.

The class 11th syllabus is more like introduction to topics explained in class 12. Almost all topics (except Biological Classification, Work energy power and other wide class 11th subjects) from both, class 11th and 12th, are completely dependent on each other.

Start by covering the class 11th chapters serve as a base for a specific class 12th topic you know. Understanding base of the topic you already know will be quite easier and faster than picking up a random topic to learn. After you are familiar with the concepts, start solving problems based on that topic. Give at least 1 - 1.5 hours per class 11th subject. By doing so you'll cover the class 11th problems and also revise the class 12 concepts more strongly than ever. This will help you for both, board exams and entrance exams,

PS: If you're not good with class 12th topic too, I'm it's too late. If I were you, I'd rather try to complete class 12th syllabus first.

    1. What's stopping you from studying more than an hour a day? Is it your college or your depression?

If it is depression, it's a bad time to get depressed. The exam is almost at the door, If you don't help yourself, you'll end up messing with the whole academic year.

90% in CBSE and 320 in AIPMT are quite nice numbers, they are showing your efforts, you are almost there. Stop feeling hopeless and start studying at least 4 hours/day.

    its my 3rd drop
in IPU for ndmc college and in DU for ucms , i was short of 1 and 5 marks respectively

i find it annoying and frustrating many a times in order to prepare for aipmt again and i really get disheartened when i compare my present with my friends pursuing MBBS from pvt or govt colleges (i know its a wastage of my time) (why i just dont stop comparing)

sometimes i feel oh yes i have a chance again to prove myself and even better ...i can be a topper , this and that

even today i love to study my ncert's and notes though i hv gone through with them many a times
BUT while studying , suddenly i lose all my interest (after studying for 1 or 2 hour)

i was able to score high in chemistry and bio in aipmt also
    but
my enemy on d day of aipmt is PHYSICS and TIME

i have joined classes for physics and chemistry and will join AIATS of aakash

in earlier drop i lacked a particular attitude (means confidence and etc) towards the aipmt exam
but this time i lack it in even for preparing for d exam

    1. Hi Munaqib,
First of all, nothing is a waste of time if the efforts are applied in a right place and in a right way.
You are not the only one who is depressed of being a multiple time repeater, there were many like you in the past who were in the same situation and today are working in their dream field.
Don't lose hope, build your confidence, prepare effectively and you'll see good results. It is a heart-breaking moment when you fail to achieve your goal when you are so close. But it shows that you are almost there and are a step away to achieve it.

Don't stick to some specific colleges, states, universities. They hardly matter when you're practicing (of course, there are some exceptions). Apply for every possible exam you believe you can crack.
Study from their old papers, develop a strategy, learn what is important, sometimes it is okay to skip a less significant topic.

Physics is the key, solve numerical and conceptual questions daily. Aakash's AIATS is also a good choice to test your problem solving ability at national level. You are going good, don't lose hope.

    1. Timetables suggested by others barely prove to be effective because they don't know your daily activity and environment you stay in. But still, following this might prove useful.
      - Wake up at 5am.
      - Freshen up and prepare yourself to start studying.
      - 6:00 am -- Start Studying, pick a subject (PCZB)
      - 7:15 / 7:30 -- Take a break.
      - 7:45 / 8:00 -- Pick another subject.
      - 9:XX -- Relax
      - Attend your coaching.
      - 5:00 pm -- Start revising the topics taught in your coaching institute.
      - 7:00 pm -- Rest.
      - 8:00 pm -- Pick another subject.
      - 9:15 pm to 9:30 pm -- break.
      - 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm -- The last subject.
      - 11:00 pm -- go to bed.

    1. Hi shwetha,
Kinematics is not as tough as it seems, you just need to use the theoretical concepts while solving problems. Prepare 'case charts', which describes the possible cases of a problem, by doing that, you'll walk through almost every possible type of questions is expected to be asked in the exam itself. Same goes with Waves.
For organic chemistry, there is no other option but to memorize things and solve problems based on that to make things easier.

Remember, practice makes man perfect. The more you practice, the more good you get at solving problems.

    1. Good Morning.
If you think you're ready for this, there's no harm. By your words, you appear to be quite a brilliant student, it won't be hard for you to get started with the basics of class XI and AIIMS/ AIPMT.

I'd recommend to start with the concepts which are related to class IX and Xth. Class XI has many topics which are an extended version of topics taught in previous classes.
Start with them, develop a habit to solve objective type problems. After that you can jump to higher topics with almost no guidance.

      All the best.

  48. THANK YOU SIR
but unfortunately now i am finding d 9 10 ncert txt as moderate and irrelevent level books for the physics and chem questions aren't those brain-scratchy as they were and are in such olympiads once one enters the level 2 arena.
hence please name some books ;having the same syllabi of 9 n 10 yet comprising high order thinking questions .pretty sure of gettn 'em here in pune
    my bottom line says that:
'same topics related to 10 but IN DEPTH'
    THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR

    1. The number of hours doesn't matter. The thing what really matters is if you are studying all four subjects the same day or not.

Make a target to solve at least 75 - 100 problems from each subject in a day. That'll take quite a handful of time in the beginning but you'll eventually become used to it.
Also, at the same time don't forget to revise the topics taught in your coaching institute the same day,

    1. Stay away from emotional barriers. Try not to get involved in family matters. There is so less time left for the exam, it is not the time to get distracted or depressed. If the environment in your home doesn't lets you concentrate, get a library subscription, you'll be in a like-minded environment where you can concentrate fully.

And for Physics and Chemistry, there is only a single rule to get good at these subjects, it is to practice. The more you practice, the more different types of problem you get to tackle. Eventually you get comfortable with them. They are just need your concentration, once you devote yourself fully to them, they will seem very easy and fun subjects.

    1. No, it is not like that. The various Test and Programs by these big educational brand cannot decide your future. It's the student who cracks the exam, not the brand of the institute s/he is coming from.

It is not necessary to join the institute you're being told to. You can join any other institute you think has good faculties who are always ready to guide their students. You can even crack AIPMT without joining a coaching institute. All you need to do is prepare in a right way and maintain a discipline.

If you are determined and are ready to work hard, you don't need a coaching institute to 'help' you to crack AIPMT.

    1. Since you are good with class 12th concepts, start with class 11th concepts which are closely related to that of class 12th. Just give it a quick read and try to solve MCQ problems based on that. You cannot afford to lose your time by going through all the topics very deeply.

Solve problems of the chapter you select daily. Try to solve problems from all four subjects the same day, this will help you to prepare effectively.

Class XI topics weigh 40% in AIPMT, it is a very bad idea to take them for granted unless you are sure you will score full marks in class XII topic based questions.
      All the best.

Stop thinking of such things and start concentrating on the studies or you'll ending losing a year and filling your mind with countless regrets.

  60. Sir,

In Chandigarh ALLEN has started (for 10th class students) AIPMT 2018 (Phase 1 batch) from 16th November 2015 and offering Phase 2 batch starting from 16th December 2015.
The name of batch is Advanced Nurture Batch

The course will complete (11th + 12th) before 31st July 2017 and will revise 3-times before AIPMT 2018 exam.

Is it correct way or they are capturing students for their own interest.

I think they start 11th's syllabus in 10th, 12th in 11th and revisions in 12th.

Schools and Coaching will go in different tracks.

Should I join it as they say "The secret of getting ahead is getting started"

    Please guide me

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "The secret of getting ahead is getting started" is surely a thoughtful line and is correct. But it is quite overboard to start things this much early and run things in a super fast manner.

At this moment, 10th class students should do nothing but concentrate on the 10th class topics, on the board exams and not on things which they are supposed to lookup after they've completed their board exams.

ALLEN/ Aakash / (Insert a big coaching brand here) is surely a big brand and they've excellent faculties. But it sounds more like an idea to attract more customers. At first, the things go very smooth and then slows downs in the mid year and then when there is a little time left for the deadline, they fast track things by announcing different types of extra classes and eventually they reach their goal of teaching the syllabus X months before the exams.
This is not just about a specific coaching institute, all of them appear to be same in some ways.

To join or not to join is totally your choice. Students from same institutes have cracked the exams without attending a special batch, just to start things up.

All you need is dedication and disciple so that you can study every day and prepare effectively. The coaching institutes are just to guide you about the topics and the exam. It'll be you who crack the exam not X institute.

I am scoring ranks between 5000-6000 out of 18000 which according to me is average. I want to get my rank to go upto double digits atleast. Please help. :)
